Rescue Company Operations:

Battalion 2 is primarily a Rescue Company.

628 responds to various calls for service.  Many of these calls are generally serious in nature.  These calls include but are not limited to: structure fires, motor vehicle accidents, motor vehicle accidents with people trapped, tractor trailer incidents (accidents, fires), emergency medical service calls, various rescue incidents (water rescue, MVA, fires).  Because of the size of 628, the tools and the different roles the truck and its crew can play at an incident is quiet large.  At an accident it can provide such services as: EMS support and extrication of victims that are trapped.  At a fire, the general role of 628 is to provide equpiment for the Rapid Intervention Crew or RIC.  628 can also deploy its light tower to supplement scene lighting.  There is also spare SCBA bottles and various tools on 628 such as: airbags for lifting, struts for stabalization, and Hurst extrication tools.

Rapid Intervention Crew (RIC)

The RIC is a team of firefighters that is tasked with rescue of downed firefighters.  They monitor the fire ground with the command staff to understand: ongoing operations, manpower within the structure, fire location, points of entrance and egress, number of windows & doors, and various other activities to assist the RIC in making quick entry and retrieval of a downed firefighter.

The RIC will carry various tools to assist them in their duties.  Some of these tools include: RIC Bag (contains spare SCBA bottle with a Quick Connect - Quick Fill Connection Hose, ropes, and a spare SCBA Mask), hand tools (Haligan Bar, FDNY Bar, Axes) and generally a TIC (Thermal Imaging Camera).

Engine Company Operations

The Engine Company is fairly straightforward.  The engine carries the water and firefighters to the scene and has supply line hose and hand lines for fighting a fire.  This truck can also supplement EMS services.  622 has two pre-connected hand lines with combination nozzles for fighting a fire.  There is also a 2 1/2" line with a smooth bore nozzle to supply a "big water" stream into heavy fire.  There is also a deck gun master stream that can be deployed both on and off the truck.
